The Direction of Life
Which way is your life headed? backward and down? or forward and up? For the majority of Americans and other people in general their lives are headed in the wrong direction. They are content to follow the crowd and do things the way that they have always been done. But there is a better way and my goal through this website is to help you find that better way in your own life and to join me in my journey of discovery to find that better way in my own life. It is different for each person, yet there are principles and over-arching themes that apply to each and every person.
The biggest of these, I believe, is how we define success, for in your definition of success will be found the overriding intention of your life, the ultimate goal that you are working towards. If, for instance, you define success as having all the material possessions you want then that is what you will strive for. If, however, your definition of success is to have the most amount of time possible to spend with the people you love or doing the things you love, then that will be what you strive for. It is important to realize though that our definition of success does not always coincide with what we want or what will make us happy. For, I think all of us would agree that we all want the time to spend with those we love and doing the things we love and realize that that is what would make us happy, yet the majority of us go after the material possessions hoping that they will bring us happiness.
So, I have taken as my definition of success - “having the knowledge that I have given my best to be the best that I can be.” Success starts with a commitment to better oneself, and from there it flows out into all areas of your life. A person cannot focus on just one area of their life to the exclusion of others without it ultimately being a detriment in his life. It may appear to be helpful at first (and it may actually be helpful), yet if the other areas of that person’s life are not broadened and deepened as well, that person will be like an unbalanced rock on top of a mountain and will eventually come crashing down.
So, while I haven’t achieved success yet, I am on the journey and I would like to invite you to join me on that journey toward a truly successful and happy life.
